What is Catchball?

Catchball is a women's team sport that combines elements of volleyball and netball. It is accessible, easy to learn and beginner- friendly.

The game is played 6 vs 6 on a volleyball court using a volleyball. Players catch and pass the ball, trying to land it in the opposing team’s court. Each team can have a maximum of three contacts with the ball, and players cannot bounce it. There are also limits on the number of steps a player can take and the time they can hold the ball.

Canterbury Catchball teams welcome adult women seeking to participate in a team sport and make friends. More experienced players help support newcomers, creating an inclusive and fun atmosphere on court.

Team sport: Active play and shared commitment

Catchball is an active team sport. This means that players need sufficient mobility, balance and strength to move safely around the court, catch the ball and throw it over the net. Commitment is important too - regular attendance helps everyone build skills and trust, and enjoy better games. The reward is real connection with your teammates and a more enjoyable way to exercise.
