Canterbury Catchball Association
Catchball is already a hit in 51 countries and is one of the fastest-growing women's sports in the world. It began in Israel, inspired by the U.S. game Newcomb, and landed in New Zealand eight years ago in Nelson.
Our Canterbury story began in 2023 when Antje Schmidt, a former Nelson player, brought the game home to Lyttelton. Eastside team joined in 2024.
The Canterbury Catchball Association Inc was officially registered on 5 May 2025. It is a non-profit association dedicated to supporting our teams and promoting Catchball in the region. All the work is done by volunteers with great help and input from our players.
At the start of 2026, the association launched the third team in Papanui.
The Catchball community is expanding in New Zealand with a new team in Palmerston North.
